Star Fox 2 News And A Zelda 2 Rumor – Hot Take

Nintendo started off this week with congratulatory news with their Switch sales numbers. From November 24 to November 30 the Nintendo Switch sold over 830,000 units in the US. That is the Switch’s biggest sales week to date according to Nintendo internal data. But since then a couple other exciting Nintendo topics have surfaced. So let’s get into some Star Fox 2 news and a Zelda 2 rumor.

Star Fox 2

Nintendo made a splash in the summer of 2017 when they unveiled the Super Nintendo Classic. Fans of the trend-igniting NES Classic were excited for the sequel console but there was something else going on. Nintendo announced the completed but unreleased sequel to Star Fox would finally see a release on the SNES Classic. And now two years later Star Fox 2 is also coming to Nintendo Switch. According to a tweet sent out by Nintendo of America, Star Fox 2 will be coming to the Nintendo Switch Online Super Nintendo collection on December 12. Now any gamer who missed out on the SNES Classic can play this long lost game. Or if you have played it on the Classic you can now take it with you on the go!

This also means that the likelihood of seeing another Classic console from Nintendo is slim to none. The NES and SNES Classics were stop gaps to prop up holiday sales during 2016 and 2017. The NES was filling in for a failed Wii U ahead of the Switch’s release in 2017. And the SNES was a kind of safety net to put out alongside the new Switch which had only been out a few months and had a light game offering at the time.

But now, the Switch is doing really well in sales. Nintendo has no reason to put out a novelty piece of hardware like say Nintendo 64 Classic. They’re more likely to make a bundle of N64 games and make them available through Nintendo Switch Online.

Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild 2 Rumor

During Nintendo’s E3 Direct this year they surprised many fans by revealing that Breath of the Wild 2 was in development. With The Game Awards coming up next week Zelda fans are wondering if we’ll see the game at the show. This is largely just hopes and dreams. However they are based on precedent. Exclusive footage of Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild has been shown off at The Game Awards in the past. This goes all the way back to 2014, years before the game came out on Switch in 2017.

The Switch is riding high in sales and have the stage almost to themselves with Xbox and PlayStation planning for next year. If they were to create hype for themselves showing more of the next Zelda would be the way to go. Just sayin’.
